(More customer reviews)I've had this plant for 3 months. When it arrived, the root ball was exposed (not packed with soil, but bare in a plastic bag with a little water) and the leaves were wilting and looked pale. It was about a foot high with four or five main branches. I planted it in well draining soil and gave it plenty of water. The leaves started to drop until it was nearly bare on all four stems. I did not cut the main branches that were bare in the hopes that new stems would emerge. Just recently, it has begun to grow new stems and leaves and seems to be in a vigorous vegetative growing cycle. I fed it with nutrients specifically suited for transplants for the first month and kept it out of the sun but in a well lit area. Month 2 and 3, I began feeding it with fertilizer suited for leaf growth and gave it afternoon sunlight.
As a note, I have another orange jasmine which I bought about 3 years ago from a nursery and it has done well year round. In the summer I bring it outside and feed it fertilizer for vegetative growth. In the winter I switch over to flowering fertilizer and it blooms indoors every two months. It is planted in well drained soil, composted cow manure and peat moss. It's about 4 feet tall and in a 4 gallon glazed ceramic container (I re-potted it this year from a 2 gallon container). The blossoms are very fragrant and perfume the whole living area. It is fairly pest and disease resistant. Before I bring it indoors in the fall I spray it with an organic pesticide to ensure I am not bringing any bugs inside. It sits in a western window so it gets afternoon sunlight but apparently it does well in well lit areas that receive no sunlight. Its a beautiful plant and when I build a conservatory I would like to learn how to graft it.
I would recommend to the seller that they firmly wrap the root ball with the soil intact (it won't cost more with USPS since it will still fit in the packaging it was sent in). This will reduce transport and transplant shock and help the plant adjust faster in its new home.
