(More customer reviews)Don't buy this product--your furniture won't survive.We bought two trays from bonsai boy; this one and the round, heavy duty tray.Both trays sweat on the bottom and leak, just slightly...but enough to have ruined an antique wood table.Bonsai Boy suggests you put stones in the trays--we did.They tell you to water your bonsai in the trays because excess water will humidify the bonsai.We did that at first but when we first discovered the leaks and sweating problem, thought that if we watered them in the sink then placed them in the trays later, they'd be less apt to leak/sweat.They still sweat and any excess water from your bonsai that ends up in the trays eventually ends up on the surface you place them on.I ordered the two trays and got the heavy duty one and a plastic tray instead.It was a gift and quite irritating.I complained to Bonsai Boy and to give them credit, they did send me what I actually ordered.In the end, the plastic trays work much better--at least they don't sweat!
A ceramic artist friend of mine checked the trays out.First, both trays should have a small lip on the bottom.He thought that might alleviate the sweating prob.Secondly, however, he noted that the glaze used on both trays was substandard and the one used on the heavy duty round tray was porous.The moral of this story is that rather than wasting your money on a cheap, made in China defective tray--go to a local gallery or bazaar and buy something made by a local artist.We now have our bonsai in a beautiful tray made by a friend and it works great.
